It was the first face to face meeting for the Network in over 2 years and Jessica Watts and Tara Kinsey were able to pull together a range of local services and community groups who compliment in the area of youth. Just some of those present were Northern Legal Community Centre, The Bridge Services, Central Ranges LLEN, Wallan and Seymour Police, L to P driving program and so many more.

ROTARY YOUTH EXCHANGE

14-09-2022 Maddy Antonietti

Our Youth Exchange student, Maddy Antonietti, gave a wonderfully informative presentation to the club at a recent Wednesday meeting. Maddy shared some details of her life in a town just a short distance from Milan. We learned Maddy loves sports and enjoyed seeing photos of her skiing, playing soccer and paddle boarding. She also shared some facts about Italy – Italy is the biggest wine producer in the world (even though many believe France holds this record), there are many national dishes – pizza & pasta just being two of thousands of national dishes, and that while Italian is the national language, there are hundreds of dialects spoken throughout Italy. School children learn Italian & English which explains Maddy’s excellent command of English.

At our meeting last night (09-11-22), Secretary Kit presented Maddy with a number of badges to add to her collection including her official Rotary Club of Southern Mitchell dinner badge.

Maddy has moved on from Rtn Angelina Cirelli-Salomone’s home and is now staying at Rtn Simon Doyle’s home. We are very privileged to have this delightful young lady staying in our community.

Our 2022 Exchange Student Maddy (from Italy)

Today marked the final day of Ozzie classes for our Rotary Youth Exchange student Maddy at Assumption College Kilmore.

The Rotary Club of Southern Mitchell is very grateful to Assumption College for their support in helping the process flow smoothly and for taking our students into their community.

Maddy shared with principal Kate Fogarty that she had very much enjoyed attending school, made strong friendships and really enjoyed the contrast of attending classes in different buildings each period which was a stark contrast from Milan where the students remain in the same classes and professors move around.

GORDON HASTIE BURSARY

Club members enjoyed an informative presentation from the inaugural recipient of the Gordon Hastie Bursary.

Danielle Spratling of Broadford Secondary College explained how grateful she is, for this "amazing gift." Danielle has made great use of the bursary to install a study desk in her room, which will help her as she continues to work toward her goal of becoming a medical professional. Danielle explained that not only does she intend to become a doctor, her goal is to specialize in pediatrics and in particular, working with the disadvantaged. Well done from all of us, Danielle.
