1.       Friendship. In our complex world, Rotary provides one of the most basic human needs: the need for friendship and fellowship. It is one of two reasons why Rotary began in 1905.

2.       Business Development.
The second original reason for Rotary's beginning is business development. Everyone needs a network. Rotary is a cross-section of a business community.

3.       Personal Growth and Development.
Membership in Rotary continues one's growth and education in human relations and personal development.

4.       Leadership Development.
Serving in Rotary positions is like a college education. Rotary leadership educates how to motivate, influence and lead.

5.       Citizenship in the Community.
Membership in a Rotary club makes one a better community citizen. The average Rotary club consists of the most active citizens of any community.

6.       Continuing Education.
Each week at Rotary there is a program designed to keep one informed about what is going on in the community, nation, and world.

7.       Fun. Rotary is fun, a lot of fun.
Each Rotary get together is fun. The club projects are fun. Social activities are fun. Serving others is fun.

8.       Public Speaking.
Many who joined Rotary were afraid to speak in public. Rotary develops confidence and skill in public speaking and the chance to practice and perfect these skills.

9.       Citizenship in the World.
Every Rotarian wears a pin that says "Rotary International." There are few places on the globe that do not have a Rotary club, and every Rotarian is welcome.

10.   Assistance when travelling.
Because there are Rotary clubs everywhere, many Rotarians in need of a doctor, lawyer, hotel, etc., while travelling has found assistance through Rotary.

11.   Entertainment.
Every Rotary club has parties and activities that provide diversion in one's life. Rotary holds conferences, conventions, assemblies etc that provide entertainment.

12.   Development of Social Skills.
Every week and at various events and functions, Rotary develops one's personality, social skills and people skills. Rotary is for people who like people.

13.   Family Programs.

Rotary provides one of the world's largest youth exchange programs; opportunities for spouse involvement; and a host of activities designed to help family members.

14.   Vocational Skills.

Every Rotarian takes part in the growth and development of his or her own profession or vocation; to serve on committees and to teach youth about one's job or vocation.

15.   The Development of Ethics.
Rotarians practice the 4-Way Test that governs one's ethical standards. Rotarians are expected to be ethical in business and person relationships.

16.   Cultural Awareness.
Around the world, practically every religion, country, culture, race, creed, political persuasion, language, colour, and ethnic identity is found in Rotary.

17.   Prestige.
Rotary members are prominent people, business leaders, professions, government, sports, military etc. Rotary is the oldest and most prestigious service club in the world.

18.   Nice People.
Rotarians above all are really nice people - the nicest people on earth. They are people who follow the policy of "it is nice to be important, but it is more important to be nice."

19.  No secrets.
No secret handshake, no secret policy, no official creed, no secret meetings or rituals. It is an open society of men and women who simply believe in helping others.

20.   The Opportunity to Serve.

Rotary is a service club. Its product is serving. Rotarians provide community service to both local and international communities.

21.   Help save the planet. 
Get involved in our environmental projects, both locally and globally.

22.   Make a difference. 
Rotary members make a significant difference in their own communities and around the world.

23.   Teamwork. 
Volunteering with other Rotary members plus other groups and organisations helps you develop collaboration and teamwork skills

24.   Make local connections. 
You will meet wonderfully diverse people from all walks of life. For many, this is the main appeal - local friends, colleagues, clients and contacts. When it comes to networking, Rotary is authentic and real.

25.   Improve your mental health. 
Rotary members help others. Evidence shows that helping others can also benefit our own mental health and wellbeing. It can reduce stress as well as improve mood, self-esteem and happiness.

26.   Put your skills to good use. 
Whatever your skills, talents, experience or interests, you'll be able to use them in a positive way.

27.   Rotary has no political or religious affiliations. 
People of any belief or none are able to work together in a positive way.

28.   Amazing guest speakers. 
We regularly have a broad cross-section of incredibly interesting speakers keeping us up to date on what is going on in our world both locally and internationally.

29.   Youth exchange. 
Rotary sponsors one of the world's largest youth exchange, educational exchange and scholarship programs, and we bring at least one student in from overseas each year.

30.   Gordon Hastie Bursary. 
This is our Rotary Club initiative which commenced in 2021 in honour of a local legend among our Rotary club and wider community, Gordon Hastie.

The bursary recognises students who are willing to share their ideas about youth, environment and all things community, displaying potential leadership traits.

31.   Raise awareness. 
Our active promotional activity raises awareness in our community about issues that need action and improvement.

32.    Inspire the next generation. 
They get fired up about making the world a more peaceful, loving place. - and Rotary have the contacts, plans and directions to make it happen.

33.   Gain a sense of purpose. 
Being in Rotary doesn't just give you a reason to get up and do something today, it gives you a reason to get up and do something every day.

34.   Get involved in Disaster Relief Efforts. 
Rotary Clubs work with their District leaders to respond providing help to those affected by natural disaster events, with shelter, food and medical supplies.

35.   Help eradicate Polio from our world. 
As a founding partner of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, over the last 35 years we have reduced Polio cases by 99.9%.

36.    Become part of a global family. 
Wherever you travel in the world, you'll find a warm welcome everywhere from local Rotarians. Every city/town you go to, you will find a Rotary get together.

37.   A place for everyone. 
Rotary is diverse and inclusive - all are welcome and everyone brings something unique to their club.

38. Kilmore Art Expo.
Proudly presented each year by the Rotary Club of Southern Mitchell and Kilmore Art Society. Are you “arty”? This is one for you to became involved in.

39. Kilmore Busking Championships.
This is a wonderful street event that brings a lot of colour and energy to Sydney Street Kilmore. It is always held on the Saturday of the Art Expo.

40. Annual Monster Tree Planting.
Our annual target is 3,500+ trees planted in just one day along a watercourse near Broadford.
